NEW DELHI: Over 9.24 lakh persons renounced their Indian citizenship in the seven-year period between 2015 and 2021, the highest being 1.63 lakh in 2021, as per data put out by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) in reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Over 43% of the 3.92 lakh people who gave up Indian citizenship in the last three years (2019-2021) became citizens of the US, including 1.7 lakh in the US itself and the rest from across a dozen other countries.
