A recent lead suggests that the upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE will be identical to the budget-friendly iPhone XR, which has now been discontinued by Apple.
The designers at the tech company are busy at work developing the reworked iPhone XR. Apple tipster Jon Prosser predicted this on the Geared Up podcast. However, according to the AppleInsider report, this prediction is most likely based on the fact that Apple likes to slightly modify the hardware from its previous models.
The 2016 iPhone SE model was said to be a modified version of the iPhone 5S from 2013.
Similarly, the 2022 model was created based on the iPhone 8 design.
The third-generation iPhone SE was launched in March, with support for 5G networks in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models in Midnight, Starlight, and (PRODUCT) RED colour variants, starting at Rs 43,900. It features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with a 750×1334 pixels resolution that brings 326ppi of pixel density and has up to 625 nits of peak brightness.
Touted as Apple’s ‘affordable’ handset, the iPhone XR was launched in 2018 with a price tag of $749 for the 64GB base model and an additional $50 for the 128GB variant.
The iPhone SE 4 may be launched next year, which will come with a 6.1-inch display with Face ID, a 12MP rear camera and IP67 water and dust resistance.
Meanwhile, days before the Far Out event, a rumour about the yet-to-be-launched smartphone’s design has been doing the rounds.
The iPhone 14 Pro is said to get a redesigned ‘notch’ in the display where two cutouts will appear as one using unlit pixels from the display. “The software will control when the pixels between the cutouts get illuminated or turn off,” it said.
The rumour originated from Foxconn employees who are involved in the iPhone 14 Pro’s production, according to an anonymous source who shared this with MacRumors.
Soon after, 9to5Mac claimed that cutouts will be reserved for displaying Apple’s privacy indicators, which arrived with iOS 14. “It shows when an app is actively using the microphone or video cameras on the device. This could free up the corners of the display to fit more status icons.”
Apple will release four new models – two 6.1-inch iPhone 14s and two 6.7-inch iPhone 14s (larger). It is understood that there won’t be any ‘mini’ iPhones this year.
