The rollout of 5G mobile broadband in India will drive data revenue by 67% between 2020 and 2026 on the back of a 29% increase in data usage, data and analytics company GlobalData has forecast.
However, since there is uncertainty around consumer adoption of 5G – especially in rural regions – because of increased data charges and smartphone prices, most mobile subscribers will continue using 4G services, it said.
GlobalData estimates 5G services penetration at 27% (around 329 million) by 2026.
The government hopes to see 5G networks covering at least 20 towns and cities by the end of the year.
