BIS News: BIS urges consumers to buy toys with ISI mark

[ad_1]

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Thursday has urged the consumers to buy toys carrying ‘ISI mark’ from the market as such products have mandatory quality certification.

Consumers must complaint through BIS Care app or write to complaints@bis.gov.in if they see any toy being sold without the ‘ISI Mark’, the authority said.

A product with the ISI mark guarantees that it was produced in accordance with the standards established by the BIS, a national standard-setting body that functions under the Consumer Affairs Ministry.

Toys must now have a quality certification as of January 2021, while more than 800 toy manufacturers, mostly from the MSME sector, have already taken BIS certification.

As a result, without a licence from BIS, no one is allowed to produce, import, sell, distribute, store, hire, lease, or exhibit for sale toys that do not meet Indian standards and do not bear the BIS Standard Mark, also known as the “ISI mark.”
