Cloudburst hits Amarnath cave area; 2 dead, rescue operation launched | India News

NEW DELHI: A cloudburst was reported to have struck near the base camp of the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas on Friday. Two people have been reported dead so far.

After heavy rainfall, the cloudburst reportedly struck the cave region at around 5.30 pm, the officials said.
“Some langars and tents have come under cloud burst/flash floods at Holy Cave, two deaths reported,” IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said. Injured are being airlifted for treatment and the situation under control, Kumar added.
In response to several langars being impacted by the gushing waters, police and other civil administration have initiated a rescue effort, the officials said.
The rescue operations by NDRF, SDRF and other agencies are underway at lower reaches of Amarnath cave.
