India has so far exported 18 lakh tonnes of wheat to such countries since May 13 when it imposed control on free export of staple.

NEW DELHI: India has continued supplying foodgrains, including wheat, to countries on humanitarian grounds and to cater to genuine needs of its neighbours and food-deficit nations through the government-to-government mechanism, Union food secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said. India has so far exported 18 lakh tonnes of wheat to such countries since May 13 when it imposed control on free export of staple.
At a ministerial conference on ‘Uniting for Global Food Security’ in Berlin, Pandey said, “Last year, India shipped out about a record seven million (70 lakh) tonnes of wheat, while typically, we export around two million tonnes which is around 1% of global wheat trade. It is worth noting that after the regulation until June 22 this fiscal year, 1.8 million (18 lakh) tonnes of wheat have been shipped out to countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Israel, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE, Vietnam and Yemen.”
