NEW DELHI: India on Thursday reiterated that it will continue to stand by the people of Sri Lanka and that it was in favour of a peaceful resolution of the ongoing crisis “through democratic means and constitutional framework”.
The MEA said ensuring peace, stability and prosperity in all countries in the region was an important aspect of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy as well as its vision for security and growth for all.
“This is also in the case of Sri Lanka and is clearly evident in the close and multifaceted relationship that we have with that country and the commitment we have demonstrated in helping the Sri Lankan people,” said external affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, responding to queries on the current situation in Sri Lanka.
“We are monitoring the evolving situation in that country,” he added.
