How did ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ fare at the international box office?
Reports show that the box office collection of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is not good. Except for the US and Canada, the movie struggles in other overseas markets. The movie has raked in $6.8 million over 13 days. The collections are expected to close at $7.1 to $7.2 million in its first 15 days since release.

The reports stated that though the movie has performed decently in the US and Canadian markets, it is not impressive because more was expected from a film of this calibre. ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’
The film helmed by Advait Chandan saw Aamir Khan returning to the silver screen after five years. ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ which took three years to complete was made on a budget of Rs 180 crore. The film was released on August 11, 2022. An official remake of the Hollywood classic ‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ failed to impress the audience and only managed to rake in around Rs 124 crore.
‘Raksha Bandhan’
Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ was released alongside Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The film helmed by Anand L Rai garnered mixed reviews. The comedy-drama made on a budget of Rs 70 crore has so far collected Rs 60 crores at the box-office. Both ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ rode on high expectations, however, both films were rejected by the masses upon release.
‘Radhe Shyam’(Telugu)
The period romantic drama helmed by Radha Krishna Kumar saw Prabhas returning to the screens after ‘Saaho’ which was released in 2019. The film, made on a budget of a whopping Rs 350 crores, was a colossal disaster as it only managed to collect around Rs 214 crore at the box-office. Stakes were particularly high as the film was simultaneously shot in Hindi and Telugu. The film received mixed reviews, however, performances and production quality were appreciated.
‘Shamshera’
‘Shamshera’ saw Ranbir Kapoor in an action avatar. The period-action film was among the highly anticipated movies of the year. The Karan Malhotra directorial was made on a budget of around Rs 150 crore. The film released on July 22 failed to attract audiences. It went on to rake in Rs 63 crore at the box-office and was declared a colossal failure.
The movie is expected to collect $7.5 million at the most because of a decent business in US and Canada. However, reaching the $8 million mark would be difficult. The movie, however, was expected to deliver double the current collections.
What is ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ about?
‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is the much-touted adaptation of the Hollywood classic ‘Forrest Gump’. Aamir Khan stars in the titular role, and other cast members include Kareena Kapoor Khan, Manav Vij, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya. There are cameos by Shah Rukh Khan and Kamini Kaushal.
The story revolves around Aamir’s titular character, who is slow-witted but has a kind heart. He narrates his life story, which coincides with critical historical events.
