NEW DELHI: A final-year MBBS student of Safdarjung Hospital was found hanging in her hostel early Thursday morning. Cops recovered a note purportedly written by her that suggests she may have been suffering from depression.
Police said they received information about the incident around 3.30am. Manoj C, DCP (southwest), said the student’s friends in the hostel went looking for her when she was missing for a few hours. When they found her room bolted from inside, they forced it open and saw her hanging from the ceiling fan, with a dupatta tied to her neck.
The student had been undergoing internship at Safdarjung Hospital since April this year, police said. A handwritten note found in her diary said she was “unhappy with her meaningless life”.
Two empty packets of antidepressants were recovered from the room. Police said statements of her friends have been taken and there was no indication of foul play. The girl’s family members have been informed.
Students at the hospital told TOI that the woman had been dealing with some personal issues “not related to her profession or the hospital”.
“She was good at academics. She never showed any signs of depression or that she was going through a rough patch. She never shared anything about her personal life with her batchmates or friends. Even till two days ago, she was behaving and talking normally,” said a student, not wishing to be named.
