Ranveer Singh Photoshoot: Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot row: PIL in HC seeks seizure of magazine copies that featured actor’s ‘obscene’ pic

The Calcutta High Court has received a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) requesting the court to issue orders to the West Bengal government and the authorities urging them to seize all printed copies of July 23 issue of international magazine ‘Paper’ which carried Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh‘s picture from his naked photoshoot on its cover.

According to a report in
timesnow.com, attorney Nazia Ilahi Khan on Monday filed a plea claiming that the photo was “obscene in the opinion of the public at large”.

The complainant in the petition has also requested the court to block the magazine’s website within West Bengal.

The petitioner has submitted that Singh’s pictures would “deprave the mind of the public at large in West Bengal, especially of minors”, and therefore, the distribution of the magazine in question should stop immediately. As per the report, the court will likely hear the matter this week.

The ‘Gully Boy’ star is at the centre of debate on what constitutes obscenity over his nude photographs which he shared on his Instagram page.

He is also facing an FIR (First Information Report) in Mumbai following a complaint from an NGO alleging that he had “hurt the sentiments of women in general and insulted their modesty through his photographs”.

The actor has made no comment but several others including Vidya Balan, Aamir Khan, Janhvi Kapoor and more have spoken in support of Singh.
