NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday denied reports of India trying to influence Sri Lankan presidential polls, and termed them as completely “false” and “baseless“.
“Baseless & purely speculative media reports about efforts at political level from India to influence political leaders in Sri Lanka regarding elections in Sri Lankan Parliament to post of President,” the Indian high commission in Colombo said in an official statement on Twitter –

It further added that India strongly denies these media reports and that they were a figment of someone’s imagination.
“It is reiterated that India supports the realization of aspirations of the people of Sri Lanka in accordance with democratic means and values, established institutions as well,” the statement further read.
