RRR Oscar News: Anurag Kashyap wants RRR as India’s official entry at Oscars, not Kashmir Files. Here’s why

Movie director Anurag Kashyap has predicted that if India sends the movie ‘RRR‘ as its official entry to the Oscars, the film can secure a nomination for itself in the Best International Feature category. The big claim was made by Anurag Kashyap during an interview recently.

The filmmaker also said that he was not a big fan of ‘RRR’, which was directed by ace director SS Rajamouli. He said that he admired Rajamouli’s works, but he did not find ‘RRR’ as good as other movies of the latter. For Anurag, Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’, ‘Magadheera’, and ‘Eega (Makkhi)’ are better than ‘RRR’.

But according to Anurag, ‘RRR’ has a 99% chance of securing a nomination at the Oscars. He explained that the movie highly influenced people in the West, and they found it better than Marvel movies. Anurag stated that people in the West watched ‘RRR’ differently than people in India. They are crazy about the Rajamouli directorial, he added.

Nonetheless, Anurag also hoped that ‘The Kashmir Flies’ should not be sent to the Oscars. ‘The Kashmir Files’ was also released in 2022 and was a commercial hit. However, the movie has been criticised for being a propaganda movie.

As of now, ‘RRR’ is the second biggest movie in India this year; KGF: Chapter 2 is at the top position. However, ‘RRR’ bagged huge popularity in the United States after the movie hit the screens again through Netflix. Soon after getting released on Netflix, the movie garnered a lot of attention and praise from the American press and some of the biggest filmmakers of Hollywood. Movie directors such as Joe and Anthony Russo, Scott Derrickson, Elgar Wright and James Gunn have showered a lot of praise for ‘RRR’.

Notably, the last Indian movie to secure a nomination at the Academy Awards was ‘Lagaan‘, which was released in 2001. Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Lagaan’ was selected under the Best Foreign Language category.
