Sanath Jayasuriya: Mammootty, a true superstar! When Sri Lankan ex-captain Sanath Jayasuriya heaped praise on Indian icon

The influence of Indian stars is much beyond the geographical boundaries. Actors from Bollywood and regional cinema enjoy an unrivalled fan following across the globe, perhaps this is the reason whenever they are spotted abroad fans throng in large numbers to greet them.

Malayalam superstar Mammootty who is known for his impressive body of work across languages commands a wide fan following across the nation. The 70-year-old actor recently visited Sri Lanka. The actor who was in the neighbouring nation to shoot for his upcoming film was greeted by the former captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Sanath Jayasuriya.

The ace cricketer took to his Twitter account to share pictures of his meeting with the Malayalam megastar. Jayasuriya, who was once known for his fierce batting, went on to call the actor a ‘true superstar’.

In his tweet, the former cricketer said that it was an honour for him to have met the legendary actor. Jayasuriya expressed his gratitude to the actor for visiting Sri Lanka. He went on to invite other Indian stars and friends to visit and enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka.

“It was an honour to meet Senior Malayalam actor Mammootty. Sir you are a true superstar. Thank you for coming to Sri Lanka. I would like to invite all Indian stars and friends to visit Sri Lanka to enjoy our country,” read Jayasuriya’s tweet.

The Malayalam megastar was in Sri Lanka to shoot for his next film ‘’Kadugannawa Oru Yatrakuripp’ helmed by acclaimed film-maker Ranjith. He was last seen in ‘Bheeshma Parvam‘, CBI 5: The Brain’, ‘Puzhu’. While ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ directed by Amal Neerad went on to gross over Rs 100 crore at the box-office, his nuanced performance in ‘Puzhu’ helmed by Ratheena was well appreciated by critics and viewers.

The ‘Madhura Raja’ actor will next be seen in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’, B Unnikrishnan’s ‘Christopher’, and Nisam Basheer‘s ‘Rorschach’.
