Delhi Police gets new patrol motorcycles to fight crime

New force to fight crime

Reaction time of police is set to come down to less than 10 minutes as a fleet of 300 patrol bikes was inaugurated by home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday.

What will they do

The unit named Raftar will have two-member teams on specially equipped bikes as first responders during crimes. They have been trained to negotiate congested lanes and reach a crime scene where PCR vans would take longer to reach.

The objective

Delhi Police has 2,028 motorcycles allotted to its 13 districts with one in each police station connected to central PCR.

“It was observed from experience that in crowded areas, these motorcycles could reach the spot faster than the bigger vehicles. Sometimes, due to traffic congestion along the route, PCR vans take longer time to reach the spot. The aim would now be to send a motorbike team first which would be followed by teams from police station and PCR vans. They have been asked to focus on women safety,” said police commissioner Amulya Patnaik.

Features of the motorbike

These bikes will be connected to Central PCR through GPRS. The area of each police station as well as NCR has been geo-fenced for monitoring of the movements of these bikes from control room as well as C4-i at PHQ.

The motorcycles have been modified by providing unbreakable front glass shield for the safety of rider, comfortable helmet with additional space inside for Bluetooth device or earpiece.

Meanwhile, Vidya Balan is slated to feature in Shirsha Guha Thakurta’s upcoming romantic comedy alongside Pratik Gandhi. The ‘Kahani’ actor will also be the lead in director Anu Menon’s murder mystery, ‘Neeyat’. Off the screen, Vidya Balan was featured in the third edition of Global Indians 2022, along with 25 others. Published by Bennett, Coleman & Company, the book traces the life of Vidya Balan and others.

Shefali Shah gained tremendous critical acclaim for her 2017 short film, ‘Juice’. Subsequently, the actor has been a part of many successful projects like Darlings, Delhi Crime, Human, etc. The actor will be next seen in the upcoming social comedy ‘Doctor G’, which also features Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh and Sheeba Chaddha.
