MUMBAI: Five days after the MVA government landed in a crisis following a banner of revolt raised by rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, NCP president Sharad Pawar and Congress legislature party leader and revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat on Friday aggressively stepped in to save the government. Significantly, after this third meeting with Pawar, CM Uddhav Thackeray too has taken an aggressive stand against the rebels.
Pawar, the architect of the MVA government, accompanied by NCP leaders Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel and Jayant Patil had a marathon meeting with the CM while Thorat and public works minister Ashok Chavan had a separate meeting to take stock of the situation.
“We discussed the political situation. We do not see any threat to the stability of the MVA government,” Patel said after the meeting while Thorat said the government is firm in its saddle.
An NCP leader said it was decided at the meeting steps should be taken to disqualify erring legislators on top priority. It was decided Sena activists should launch a silent agitation in rebel legislators’ constituencies to create pressure on them to return to the party.
