Most Bollywood movies are sailing in choppy waters. Controversies and comments made by actors years ago are coming back to haunt them.

Nearly 10 days before its release, ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva‘ is facing boycott calls for a comment Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor made 10 years ago.

In the decade-old video, Kapoor could be seen opening up about his love for meat, especially beef. “I am a big beef guy,” the actor shared with food critic and writer Kunal Vijaykar when he was promoting his 2011 film ‘Rockstar’.

The comment didn’t go down well with some social media users, and people started sharing #BoycottBrahmastra tweets.

Last week, the movie was at the centre of a controversy when netizens took offence to Bollywood diva Alia Bhatt‘s statement.

Reportedly, the actress was quoted as saying in an interview, “If you don’t like me, don’t watch me.” These comments were in reply to the nepotism debate. Her comment upset the netizens, with many saying that they will boycott her upcoming film.

‘Brahmastra’ marks the first on-screen outing of the star couple Ranbir-Alia.

Directed by Ayan Mukherji, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and south actor Nagarjuna in prominent roles. It is set to hit the theatres on September 9.

Earlier this month, Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ also faced a lot of heat from fans two weeks before the movie’s release. Khan’s seven-year-old comment on India’s intolerance led to boycott calls for the official Hindi remake of the 1994 classic ‘Forrest Gump’.

Irked fans decided to not show up for the movie leading to show cancellations and poor box-office performances.
