The Union home ministry on Thursday rebutted the claims made by Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on shifting of illegal Rohingyas foreigners to economically weaker sections (EWS) flats in West Delhi.

In a letter to Delhi government, MoS Ajay Kumar Mishra conveyed to Sisodia that the decision to shift Rohingyas foreigners to EWS flats was that of Delhi government. Mishra cited the meeting taken by Delhi chief secretary on July 29, 2022, during which officials from Foreigners Registration Regional Office (FRRO) were informed about the “sudden decision” to earmarks EWS flats as detention centre, citing lack of space

Mishra also clarified that the UNHCR cards issued to illegal migrants doesn’t grant any legal status under the Indian laws.
