NEW DELHI: Congress urged Modi government to withdraw the Agnipath scheme and not repeat the mistake it made over the now-repealed farm laws, even as the party demanded that the parliamentary panel on defence convene an urgent meeting to discuss the controversial short-term recruitment plan.
Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda, addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, said the government should withdraw the scheme immediately, and instead announce a three-year age relaxation for regular entry process in the armed forces because there has been no recruitment for last three years.
“There is a disconnect between the government policies and rural India. It is evident in the land acquisition Act, the farm laws, and Agnipath scheme,” Hooda said.
