CHANDIGARH: Wanted terrorist and fugitive hijacker of an Indian Airlines flight to Lahore in 1981, Gajinder Singh, gave away his presence in Pakistan through a Facebook post on Monday, offsetting Islamabad‘s denial that he wasn’t in the country.
The co-founder of radical outfit Dal Khalsa posted a photo on his Facebook account that shows him in front of Gurdwara Panja Sahib at Hasan Abdal in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Gajinder was among five men who had hijacked an IA plane carrying 111 passengers and six crew members on September 29, 1981, and forced it to land in Lahore, demanding the release of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and several other Khalistani extremists.
He and the four others were convicted and given life sentences by a Pakistani court. They all were released in October 1994 after 14 years in jail. Thereafter, he had flown to Germany, but was deported to Pakistan some time later.
In 2002, India included Gajinder’s name on the list of 20 most wanted terrorists. India has been seeking his deportation, but Pakistan denies his presence in the country.
