The back-to-back box-office failures of Bollywood movies have made movie producers and distributors extremely worried and cautious.

With star-studded releases like Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-led ‘Brahmastra’, and Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Vikram Vedha’ on their way, the makers are hoping for the situation to change.

The recent movies to face the ire of fans were ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, ‘Shamshera’ and ‘Liger’. Some of these movies also face boycott for the comments they made years ago, but lyricist Javed Akhtar feels this is just a passing phase.

During the red carpet at the 67th Filmfare Awards 2022, the veteran screenwriter said that he was confident that the boycott culture in Bollywood won’t last.

Talking to ETimes, Akhtar was quoted as saying, “It is a passing phase. It is very evident that it doesn’t work. If the film is good and is appreciated by the audience, it will work. If it is not good and not appreciated by the audience, it won’t work. I don’t think this kind of announcement of cancel culture and boycott works at all.”

He walked the red carpet with his actress-wife Shabana Azmi.

Akhtar also recalled his best Filmfare memory. “My fondest memory of Filmfare is when I first attended it. I was 14-15 years old in 1959-60. Bina Rai won the Best Actress award for ‘Ghoonghat’, Dilip Kumar for ‘Kohinoor’ and Bimal Roy for ‘Parakh’. I had attended the event on the guest card of Bharat Bhushan,” he was quoted as saying.
