JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have solved two Kathua drone cases with the arrest of three people.
Police said two of the accused have confessed to receiving multiple drone-dropped consignments of arms and ammunition from Pakistan.
Police shot down one drone on May 29 this year at Talli in Kathua. Sources said it had a payload including UBGL rounds and sticky bombs.
The other case related to the shooting down of a drone at Manyari on June 20, 2020, which also carried a huge payload, including M4 rifles and other explosive material.
A police spokesperson said: “During initial investigations, we arrested many suspects on the basis of technical analysis and, subsequently, zeroed in on one Habib, from Harie Chak, Kathua. During questioning, the arrested person admitted to his role as receiver of multiple consignments of arms and ammunition, which were dropped via drones controlled from Pakistan. He also disclosed that he was working on the directions of one Faisal Muneer of Talab Khatikan, Jammu.”
Police said they arrested Faisal, who accepted his link with Pak-based handlers and his involvement in the terror nexus.
“Faisal disclosed that he was in touch with Pak-based handlers for more than two years and, that, he had received more than 15 drone-dropped consignments at multiple locations in Samba and Kathua, including Manyari, Mawa, Hariya Chak, etc,” the police spokesperson said.
Police further said that Faisal disclosed that he delivered these consignments to different locations in Jammu and in the Kashmir valley, on the orders of his Pak handler.
“On the basis of the statements made by Faisal, we recovered one AK-46, two AK magazines, 60 AK rounds, 5 pistols, 15 pistol magazines, 2 pistol silencers, 8 grenades, and weapon cleaning accessories and assorted items,” police said.
One more accused, Mian Sohail of Kathua, was also detained in the case, and the involvement of more people is being investigated, police said.
