BHOPAL: The father of 21-year-old engineering student Nishank, who was found dead on railway tracks on Sunday evening with his body severed in two, doesn’t believe his son would kill himself even though police believe it to be so.
Nishank was in his fifth semester at an engineering college in Bhopal. He belonged to Seoni-Malwa tehsil in Narmadapuram, around 120 km from Bhopal, and had come to the Madhya Pradesh capital for his BE degree.
On Sunday, Nishank rented a scooter in Bhopal and was driving towards Narmadapuram, but seems to have changed his mind and was driving back to the city, police said after reviewing CCTV footage. His body was found near Midghat railway station in Raisen district, exactly halfway between Bhopal and Seoni Malwa, just after 6pm.
Minutes before his death, his father received the chilling message. “Around 5. 44pm, I received the message on WhatsApp from Nishank’s number. It was not a forwarded message but a typed one,” father of the deceased Nishank Rathore, who is posted as an auditor in the cooperative department in Harda district, said.
He had spoken with him earlier in the day. There was no contact with the collegegoer until 5. 44pm on Sunday when Rathore got a call and message from Nishank’s number. “I could not take his call as I was on another call. When I called back, it went unanswered,” he said.
Asked if Nishank had been worried, he said: “He never shared anything regarding any tension. Besides, he was not much bothered about these issues. I cannot believe it was suicide and have told police this very clearly. There were no injury marks on his face or upper parts. Only a leg was severed,” he said.
Raisen ASP Amrit Meena told TOI that a post was shared on Nishank’s Instagram at the same time as his father got the WhatsApp message, with the same lines and one of his old pictures.
Investigators will record the statements of all his relatives and friends, he said.
