Congress president Sonia Gandhi left the Enforcement Directorate office after she was questioned by the ED officials for two hours in the National Herald money laundering case.

The session for the day was ended on her request as she is recovering from Covid, PTI reported citing officials.

Gandhi, 75, arrived at the ED headquarters with her children Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. She was escorted to the ED office with Z+ category CRPF security cover.

The questioning began around 12:30 pm after completion of some formalities like verification of summons and signature in the attendance sheet.

The Delhi Police had deployed a huge force and barricaded the entire over 1 km stretch between Gandhi’s residence on Akbar Road-Janpath and the ED office even as traffic restrictions have been enforced around the area.

The party has slammed the agency’s action against its top leadership and called it a “political vendetta”.

Earlier, Gandhi had sought exemption on previous dates of June 8 and June 23 owing to coronavirus infection.

The probe relates to alleged financial irregularities in the Congress-promoted Young Indian Private Limited, which owns the National Herald newspaper.
