VADODARA: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday morning raised the ‘dhwaja’ on the Mahakali temple on Pavagadh hill in Panchmahal district. The temple which is amongst ‘shaktipiths’ has a ‘dhwaja’ after five centuries.
Modi reached Pavagadh on Saturday morning and offered prayers at the temple. He also performed a puja of the ‘dhwaja’ and then raised it. He said that the moment had filled his heart with joy.
Speaking on the occasion Modi said that the temple did not have a ‘dhwaja’ for five centuries and after 75 years of independence. “Today it is there. Aafter centuries this Mahakali temple is in its full glory before us and makes our heads rise with pride,” he said.
Mentioning the developments in Ayodhya, Kashi and Kedarnath, the PM said that spiritual and culture glory is being restored. He said that the new India is keeping its ancient heritage and identity alive along with its modern aspirations.
Modi said that Gujarat had contributed to both the independence and development of the country. He added that the state had led the business and also conserved spirituality. “After independence the challenge of establishing our identity was also there. The cultural independence of the country also began in Gujarat under the leadership of Sardar Patel. The Somnath temple reconstruction came as commitment for national redevelopment and Pavagadh is carrying it forward,” he said.
Modi gave details of the various developments planned at Pavagadh. He said that earlier it took hours to reach to the temple and pilgrims faced difficulties. He recalled how stampedes had taken place earlier, but will be avoided now with the new stairs and path. He urged pilgrims to maintain discipline.
Modi said that several pilgrimage places across the state had been developed. He asked people from Pavagadh to request those visiting Pavagadh to also visit these pilgrimage places too. “Visitors bring new opportunity, tourism increases, employment and infrastructure also grow. Art, crafts and culture also develop,” he said.
The PM noted that with the developments at Pavagadh, Panchmahal will also develop as a tourism place. He said that Pavagadh has the Mahakali temple on one end and Jain temples on the other. Champaner-Pavagadh is also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. “It will bring new opportunities for for youth and tribals,” Modi said. He recalled that the Jyotigram Yojana providing 24 hours power for the first time in the state and country was also launched from Pavagadh.
