Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot meets family members of slain tailor Kanhaiya Lal, in Udaipur on Thursday
Gehlot, who also travelled to Ajmer to meet with Sandeep Choudhary, the constable deployed in Bhim town and injured in mob violence following the murder of Kanhaiya Lal, announced Rs 10 lakh for Choudhary — Rs 5 lakh from the CM’s fund and Rs 5 lakh from the police fund — and promoted Choudhary to head constable “What is this culture where people take the law into their hands? An atmosphere of hatred has enveloped the country… the PM should step in and make an appeal,” Gehlot said.
In Udaipur, Gehlot said Lal’s murder was heinous and had shocked the entire country. “Our police, the Special Operations Group did a commendable job as they quickly arrested the killers. They also found out about the accused’s international connections, which is why NIA came into the picture,” he said. He added that the NIA should expedite its investigation and a chargesheet should be filed as soon as possible. He told reporters that the accused will not be spared and would receive the harshest punishment under the law. A case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act
