However, the fugitive businessman didn’t realise that his tweet would open a floodgate of memes on the microblogging site.
“Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all,” Mallya wrote on Twitter.

Several people on Twitter asked Mallya why he only tweets when it’s a bank holiday. As people took the opportunity to troll the 66-year-old, the chairman of RPG Group conglomerate, Harsh Goenka, called Twitter “ruthless”.

One of the Twitter users also asked Mallya when he is returning to India to celebrate festivals here.

If one took a closer look at Mallya’s Twitter timeline, it does seem like the businessman only comes on the social media platform to wish his fans on public holidays. All his past tweets on the micro-blogging platform are shared on different festivals.
Mallya, who was once called the ‘king of good times’ due to his extravagant lifestyle, fled to the UK in 2016 after he was accused in a bank fraud case involving Rs 90 billion in loans. The dark cloud of controversies started surrounding Mallya in 2012.
In 2017, the businessman was arrested by the UK Metropolitan Police extradition unit on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud. He was later released on bail.
In the latest update, he was sentenced four months in jail by the Supreme Court on 11 July, 2022. The court also imposed a Rs 2,000 fine on Mallya in a 2017 contempt of court case. Meanwhile, his name also popped up in the infamous Panama Papers and Paradise Papers, which leaked confidential documents relating to offshore investment.
