S Jaishankar: This is where they are … ‘ S Jaishankar recalls US restaurant visit with son, and staff asked for Covid vaccine certificate

One of the biggest moves by the current government in India has been regarding digitalisation of India. Even during the pandemic when the world paused, the Indian government made sure people had access to education, medicines and things that are required for day-to-day needs.

Even the vaccine certificate was sent to everyone on the phone, which made it easier for people to travel with it as a digital copy was easily acceptable at entry points across the country.

Now a small video has gone viral on the Internet where the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shares an incident which took place at a restaurant in the US.

In the video clip, Jaishankar recalls his US visit when travel was just reopening amid Covid-19 restrictions and he went to a restaurant with his son.

“My son lives in America. We were going to a restaurant and they wanted to see our Covid vaccine certificate. So I showed them my phone,” Jaishankar said, adding that he then saw his son producing a piece of paper to show at the restaurant, which the minister found amusing.

“My son from his wallet produced a paper which was folded in the thing and said ‘okay, this is my certificate’. I looked at his paper and I asked myself, ‘okay, this is where they are and this is where … (we are),” he added.

The video, which currently has over 5.83L views and over 3.2K likes, was shared by a Twitter user named Arun Pudur. The clip is originally from 2021.

Further in the video, Jaishankar talks about the Co-Win platform.

“The whole idea of the Co-Win platform was that each one of you, like me, have all the details of the vaccination with you in your phone,” he concluded.
