Udaipur murder: Tailor sent cops SOS, but they failed to gauge gravity of plea | India News

UDAIPUR: Kanhaiya Lal had on June 15 filed a report with the Udaipur police that he had been receiving threats, but police did not understand the gravity of the matter and instead brokered an agreement between the two parties.
DGP ML Lather said police have already suspended an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and the station house officer (SHO) concerned for failing to ascertain the situation.

Rajasthan police said a complaint was filed against Lal by one Nazim on June 10 for allegedly posting an offensive social media post.
Police had arrested Lal and he was later released on bail. On June 15, the victim narrated his ordeal to police and claimed that he did not make any offensive comments and that it was merely an accident because some child playing a game on his phone had let out a social media post.
The victim in his complaint before the police had also pleaded that Nazim and his friends had been regularly following him as part of a recce and to keep a watch on him.

As per the complaint, the victim learned that some people were trying to kill him as soon he opened his shop and that some people had shared his photos and name on different social media groups.
Officials said the local police station then called members of both communities to pacify them and facilitated an agreement. The victim’s family also pointed out that if the police had acted in a timely manner on his complaint, things would not have taken such an ugly turn. Rajasthan police also found the SHO had delegated an ASI-rank official to deal with the matter even though such a situation had warranted a different response.
