NEW DELHI: India has become the third largest producer of eggs globally. The country increased its production of eggs from 1.83 billion in 1950-51 to 122.11 billion in 2020-21.
The per capita availability of eggs has also jumped from 5 to 90 eggs per annum in the same period.
Increased focus on harnessing the potential of the poultry sector and allied activities, and increase in income of farmers has given a boost to egg and meat production in India.
Egg production has been increasing at a rate of 8%-10% for the past two decades. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are the top egg producers in the country.
