The increase in the number of registered motor vehicles indicates improved accessibility and quality of transport for citizens.
Total registered vehicles in India grew at a compound annual growth rate of 9.91% over the last decade.
Year-on-year growth in registered vehicles has, however, shown a decrease. From 2001-02 to 2002-03, India registered the highest YoY growth at over 13%. YoY growth from 2017-18 to 2018-19 was less than 9%.
Category-wise growth of registered motor vehicles show that two-wheelers account for the highest number of registration at 221.3 million in 2019 (75%) followed by cars, jeeps and taxis 38.4 million (13%).
