AGRA: The UP Sthaniya Nikay Karmachari Mahasangh (sanitation workers’ union) on Monday warned of a statewide protest in case the contractual worker who was fired for carrying pictures of PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath in his garbage cart was not reinstated.
The worker, Bobby, was terminated from service by the Mathura-Vrindavan municipal corporation for being “careless”. Speaking to TOI, the sanitation worker said, “I had no idea about the pictures in my cart, I got to know about them when two passers-by took a video and told me. I request the authorities to please forgive me. I am a poor man and have to take care of my family.”
The Mahasangh handed over a memorandum with their warning to the municipal commissioner of Agra.
Vice-president of the Mahasangh, Vinod Allahabadi, added, “Terminating the Dalit contractual worker is an atrocity. This mindless decision of the Mathura-Vrindavan municipal administration has resulted in discontent among sanitation workers across UP…”
